Study on mechanical strength of cantilever handrail joints for chair

چکیده

Modern solid wood armchairs are developing in the direction of simplicity and lightness, favored by market. However, low mechanical strength connecting joint cantilevered handrails is an issue that needs to be improved. In this study, armrest joints a cantilever armchair made beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) were examined. To improve handrail joints, three novel proposed including dovetail tenon, cross-stepped rear plug corner tenon. The finite element analysis (FEA) was used compare analyze five obtain optimal joint. Finally, experimental tests conducted verify results FEA. tenon had better performance, i.e., bending moment capacity stiffness, than other evaluated. maximum load greater commonly conclusion, most suitable for chair. This study will contribute structural design modern wooden chairs.
